I'm ordering a set of white 460 rear coil springs from zf sachs. Price given R1170 ex vat. each, 6 weeks delivery from Germany. I will put the order in on Wed, 4 Sept. You will need to courier from CA or pick up too. (I can check if they will send some up to a joburg branch of Diesel Electric.)

Anybody else want?
Regards
Leonard

I need rear coils for my 1982 300GD SWB. I'm not sure of the meaning of the colour coding. Is R1170 per spring or per set?

Per spring.
I have the part number for Amber rear which will be correct standard for your shorty. Can ask a price? Last I paid about R3200 for 2

Thanks Leo

In that case I'm in. If I can pick up in Joburg that would be perfect, otherwise I'll courier.

Price in rands. I think the 290 came with white springs. Yes, mercedes prices on springs are a ripoff. I will hopefully be able to order a few extra depending bank balance. Somebody will need it. Prices will go up or these parts will become unavailable.

 Seems the rear coil spring on my wife's G is also bust and it is sagging on one side. From Peters post I read that there is only one spring type for rear and one for front and it does not correspond with anything on the 460's.
Anyone have knowledge if they are interchangeable? Also Leonard do you know if they have for the 463? If yes I'm in fore a rear set.
Just had a closer look at the specs and I think the whites would also be OK for the 463 shorty.

Anthony replaced on his 290 - i will check with him - front springs the same?
Afaik these are 2 stripe white rears. Quite firm ride. His 290 is a "worker" spec with "bad road" package.

Anyone know the difference in stripe numbers?

Andrew afaik the different stripe are just to match up equal pairs of same colour with slight hight difference. I will try look up the other Sachs part numbers and ask availability.

Stripes afaik are not huge differences. They were also to compensate for driver side sagging. ie. 2 stripe is 10N stiffer and 3 stripe 20N or something like that.

Ok, so amber (yellow/orange) is sachs part 996548 a good mid range medium duty imo more suited to swb. I think it is equal to mb 460 324 0704.

Alan, white springs for swb might be a tad stiff, nice for tar roads and load. Could result in a bit of rear lift.

I have yet to look up one or 2 and tally requests before placing order next few days.

Leonard i will definitely be in for two white striped ones for my 290 please - do i need to get the two and three stripe configuration as per Alan's recommendation? My double camping batteries are also permanently sitting on RHS?
