One free flow silencer should suffice on the turbo. My 300 CDI has one 500mm long 63mm oval free flow silencer giving a pleasant sound under normal load. The round one does it on the 290TD, that is really quiet.
In November last year I started building the tailgate. I was quite chuffed with it at first. Then i sent it for sandblasting. It was a cockup.I have now stripped and painted and filled and sanded 5 times before it was sort of ok and this evening I fitted it. It is sort of ok and matches the rest of the car - which is a little crinkly but ok. Like me.
I have driven this little G for almost 10 000 km. It gets between 8 and 9 km per liter quite consistently, can go about 140km/hr at full shout, but is happiest at 110 - even up hills, is fairly quiet after the silencer fitment, and in general it is just great fun to drive.
It has its faults!! and has some way to go before i can sign it off but hey, it goes, its mine, and as i like to remind you guys, it still is the second best G in the country. Lick that.
Left CA fri after work with a trailer to Kathu, got back 12pm now Sun. Must still look properly but needs some work. Engine overheated now fitted with newer om617. Hasn't run yet. Has original engine with other skimmed head loose and correct GD oil pan. Props all off. Who knows what awaits there. Otherwise looks ok. Two small rust spots and small dings.
So "Mr do everything at least twice" grumbles at the panelbeater for the crinkly finish and two colours, of the paint.
Five weeks later it is finished (repainted) and looks much better. Now for all the trim again.
