Hi there, first-time poster and die-hard Land Cruiser fan. Since I was young I admired the G-class. Especially the older ones.

We deal in yellow (earthmoving) equipment and I need a vehicle that symbolises the rugged but reliable ethos we stand for in our equipment business. This G class will be our company "mascot" vehicle that we'll use at exhibitions, trade shows and just for general work purposes. We already have a giant yellow "Bumblebee" mascot and this will be such a great addition and talking piece.

Perfectly willing to take on a project if the unit isn't perfect or in need of some TLC. Otherwise a good example is also fine. It will be taken well care of for everyone to enjoy. Below are some ideas I thought could work. Any feedback welcome.

I have a blank canvas project cabrio. 70% bodywork done. Chassis been modified for another engine. Hardware all present minus engine/gearbox. Think if you throw around R100k at it might realise its potential. Can spend more. Can spend less depending what you want. (Pictured left).

Helo Gerrie,

A great Idea you have here! The guy that did the "refurbishment" of the sand colour SWB in your photos also built up a G similar to the yellow Wolfs you posted. The work was done by a company called DNA Autobody in Pretoria who has worked on several G's. I am sure if you take Leonard's Cabrio and hand it to this shop, or one closer to you, you should be able to realise your dream.

PM me if you are interested in further details.

The Sand coloured G in the last picture is my G 1982 300GD - just undergone a full engine rebuild here in Cape Town. Currently busy with the last item, a leaking injector pump. Once this is done and dusted it will be a great day

Thanks Gerhard van Rooyen for the info. I know the interior and likely respray was done by a place called Snor City in pta…don’t think they exist anymore. She also belonged to the owner of USN supplements I believe.

If anyone has any extra info on her, please PM me.

Good luck with you search OP. I’d like to follow your search and progress with your project.

Thanks.

Those first FJ Cruiser's of the early 1970's came with the "Canadian Husky" engine, which was none other than a regular GM3800 complete with three-speed gearbox. Uprated to 4100 later.

In Brazil, the FJ45 Bandeirante is still sold with a rather lethargic OM314 4-cylinder Unimog engine, same engine as the old 508D commercial trucks & vans.
