Hi all
1st quick introduction, we have been part of the Geländewagen family since forever, when we imported the vehicle new from Germany in 85. Ever since our Gwagen has been our trusted adventure vehicle and has been pretty much everywhere and stuck in the remotest of places ( try finding a new fuel pump in Savuti)
Now the vehicle is stuck in Jhb needing a new waterpump which seems just as challenging.

MB SA, MB Germany all quote the following part number 1022004001 at R7k and 6 weeks waiting time.
I can get a generic part quicker and cheaper from Germany but I have a few concerns. As shown the new pump seems to have an extra bracket (1) which might get in the way and more concerning is the diameter size of the shaft (2)

Now I have read all the threads on replacing the pumps and changing fans, but 1st prize would be an easy one to one replacement of the pump
eg: https://www.mb4x4.co.za/index.php?threads/89-230ge-water-pump-fan-radiator-different-to-w123-4.2736/

Any help and suggestion from the community would be greatly appreciated.

What is wrong with your waterpump?

Your visco fan is probably also not working 100% by now.

The 230GE waterpump is G spesific as its the only 230e motor in mercedes with a visco fan.

Th w123 and w124 both have electromagnetic fans.

I would replace both waterpump and visco fan if you going that route but its very expensive.

I converted mine to w123 setup. A w123 230e waterpump is only R 1000 and much more readily available in rsa for future purposes.

Another option that i would recommend is to buy the normal w123 waterpump and install an electric fan for the radiator.
