I’m planning a get together for any of us keen to do a bit of driving and braai.

When: 8 June
Where: Hennopspark 4x4 trail. Situated on the R512 about 30km from both Sandton and Pretoria.
http://www.hennops.co.za/offroad.html
Cost: R250 per vehicle and two visitors. R80 for each additional adult and R40 per school child. Cash only. Payable at the gate.

Meet at 08:30 and start driving at 09:00. There are two routes, each taking about two hours to complete and suitable for all levels of experience. We can have some fun, play a bit and learn from each other.

After the drive, light some fires at the lapa area and braai

It’s not necessary to book for the first trail, but I will need to arrange access for,the second trail and I’m trying to secure the lapa for our use so please let me know if you’re keen on joining me.

Bring your picnic or braai stuff and something to sit on.

Regards
Antony

Pity, maybe next time. We’ll post plenty of pics to help advertise our next get together.

It’s going to be a great get together. My kids are especially keen on the Jimmny. And are already scheming how they get one as a student car.....in four years time

The morning got off to an early start and nine drivers were ready and waiting for the gates to open at 8:30. Fees paid and indemnities signed, the first order of business was to drive straight down to the lapa area and freshen up. What this meant is that we were alone on our part of the trail. The other visitors all having gone onto the circular route at obstacle number 1 and we were starting at no12, a large rocky climb mountain steriously called Hill 49 . It was intimidating for some to look at so early into the day, but the vehicles and their drivers performed superbly and soon everyone was underway.

Smiles grew along with confidence as the vehicles ate up the obstacles one, by one. Due to our odd starting position, we never encountered another group while outnon the trail. Some wildlife was evident and I did happen upon a “zebra-crossing” pun absolutely intended. Two ladies joined us, Ansu and Giselle (I hope I spelt that right) and they were stars. Ansu took their G through the rockiest, hairiest obstacle of the day with no problem and a huge smile while Giselle piloted her own Jimny, over and around the obstacles with style and quiet assurance.

After two and half hours of driving, we completed the route and were back at the lapa where fires were lit, beers cracked and conversations started. We met new friends, and reconnected with old friends and all too soon, I was time to pack up and head home.

One last trip up Hill49 and we were back at the gates already talking about next time........
