Dear all

I am keen to fit my G300 Professional with twin wheel carrier arms (left and right) to replace the current single door mounting. I should be grateful if anyone could provide pointers to where in South Africa I would be able to get them. Alternatively, if any detailed technical drawings of the wheel carrier arms are available, it would be appreciated.

Regards

From that pic mine looks identical expept missing shock #290. Must check if mounting point is there. If you are in Cape Town welcome to measure up, or i can ask around who can copy it from sample. I saw a set years ago on Gumtree but not likely to be repeated.

What i saw from parts supplier is the corner panel on G also different, but i guess accurate drilling and reinforcement could work.

I am unaware that there is a left hand side - ie mirror image mount from MB. I think that in this configuration two wheels will not fit as the centreline is already exceeded.

There is some G engineering which I find irritating, like the spare wheel mount position is perfectly co-incidental with a RHD rear view mirror - ie it is LHD specific! (Not to mention the handbrake of the Prof!)

To try correct this, some years ago I 3d modelled a complete rear bumper unit (one that could take two spares if required) but never took it further. You are welcome to it if it could help.

Not sure if only for barndoors, best pic i have on file.. I think it would work with normal door but guessing. You would then have two wheels to move before opening door.
Many thanks for your response! Arrived in Siberia today, will respond to you as soon as I get a chance

So there is a lhs carrier! This would certainly improve a rhd rear visibility. I have it on my wishlist now, and i see there is an unused one on a Hutchinson shod G in Cape Town.....

Oops!

HW - you used the word "available" and I used the word "unused". If both of these words were true I too would be interested! I refer to Leonard's picture above, of his G without a wheel on his lh carrier.

For what it is worth, I am building one myself at the moment. Quite interesting project with lots of options. I try to keep it uncomplicated, and with no butchering of existing parts. Looks like it is going well. Any body interested, I am in Pretoria on the East side. One of the issues is the various designs of rims, i.e. Al versus steel, and the width of tem, as well as the recess inside the tyre.
