    Lesotho Outing 29-30-31st July

Hello G-Friends, I'm starting to organize a weekend outing for the Friday 29th toi the Sunday 31st July.
Staying at the Ramabata lodge, for two nights.
    DBB R450 pp
    Self catering R300 pp
    Camping R80 pv
The itinerary will be, if weather permits, for friday to muster at lunch time (12o'clock) at Clarence, 14.00 depart for Peka and to Ramabanta through Taba Bosiu. Saturday, a quick look at Baboons Pass entrance, then a drive towards Lipamaleng. If there is still time we will visit Semonkong Lodge and the Falls.
Sunday easy drive back to Clarence and home.
I need to have the number of people that are interested in participating by Saturday the 9th of July, so that I can do the booking.
If you would like to have an extra bed added to your room please advise!
Warm clothing is a necessity, no heavy 4x4'ing all easy stuff!

Don't be shy, the last trip was absolutely GREAT!

    Re: Lesotho Outing 29-30-31st July

    Hi Michel

Due to work responsibilities my group is going on the weekend of the 22nd of July. We are leaving East London very early the Friday (we have put in for leave that day) and we plan on sleeping at the top of Sani Pass. Then we want to go and explore the beautiful places around the southern part of Lesotho.

Any suggestions on where we should go to?

    Regards,

    Arnold

Hi Arnold, what a pity about the 29th, unfortunately it is impossible for me an earlier date in July.
I would suggest a very scenic route, however lately Lesotho had some bad weather and some roads are in a very bad state.
From Sani go towards Mokhotlong, after Ha Mojakisane thake the rtoad the the left over the Menoaneng Pass (3050m), this road will take you to Thaba Tseka, about 40km before Thaba Tseka there is a small road to your left after Taung, to St Theresa, going to Sehnonghong. From there you follow the Senqu river. at one stage the road forks to the left (12-15km from Sehnonghong) in the Senqu valley to the Matebeng Pass (3200m). you will arrive eventually to Sehlabathebe. From here you can exit from Ramatseliso Gate and drive back to Underberg.
As much as for Lodges and places to stay, in the South there are not many places besides Sehlabathebe National park, camping is the best solution.

Hope that you will like this route, I have done it several times and it is spectacular!

    Happy trails,

    amzimmy

    Thanks a lot Michel

I'll start plotting away on my GPS right away!

I would really have liked to join you guys as well, but we'll still get together one day. Hopefully it will be in the Transkei (my play place).

    Regards,

    Arnold

    Re: Lesotho Outing 29-30-31st July

    Hi Michel

I've plotted the route that you suggested (except that I stopped for the night at Sehlabatebe Camp) and my T4A tells me that it will take me about 17 hours. Does that sound correct to you? I must admit that I tend to believe the suggested times from T4A but it's a total of about 210km.

Hope you can tell me that this is utter rubbish and that I can do it in one day!

    Regards,

    Arnold

    Re: Lesotho Outing 29-30-31st July

Arnold! Maybe my misunderstanding.... you can do this in one day ........ with Helicopter, not with the G or any 4x4. The entire trip will be around three days. In Lesotho there are no daily round trips, unfortunately!
You can do, Sani - Menoaneng - Thaba Tseka - Leribe - and out in Calendon's poort in two days, but mostly on tarred roads (lots of potholes)!

    Happy trails,
