airdryer
Hi,
I want to build an airdryer into my Unimog 1300. My problem is, the Mog got 18 bar presure and I like to have 8-12 bar. I don"t know what happens with my airports, say #1 has 9.5 bar? Or the brakes?
It is not possible to get an airdryer with 18 bars in SA.
I hope you can help me, thanks.

Re: airdryer
Hi Jochen
I know many of the 1300L mogs in colder climates come standard with air dryers. I'm sure these air dryer units would be a simple bolt on modification to yours. It may be worth looking into importing an air dryer (maybe a used unit?) from an overseas supplier, rather than trying to find something local which is an "almost but not quite" fit.
On one of the international Unimog forums I'm on, a guy called Jim Ince is quite knowledgeable about mogs. He maintains and sell parts for mogs in the US, and also ships parts worldwide. He would definitely be able to assist with advice on your mog's air system as well as how to go about fitting an air dryer. I'd suggest you send him a mail with your questions.
His website isn't very user friendly, but you can get his contact details on http://www.eurotech-services.com/

Re: airdryer
Dear Jochen.
If I may answer to you request. 18 Bar air pressure. Yes all the new Unimogs is 18 bar aswell , the air dryer is fitted between the compressor and off louder valve. The air pressure is storted in 18 bar after the off louder valve. Yes the air dryer will handle the pressure , It is availible from MB Dealer network , also from the wabco suppler.
Give me a call if you need more tecnical info.

Re: airdryer
Hi Jochen / Mogger
While on the topic of air dryers - would you say it is something that is worth the additional cost if a mog did not come standard with one?
I drain my air tank after most drives. Now in winter its normally dry, but in the wet summer we had this year there was often quite a bit of water in the air tank. Is the main problem rust in the air tank, or does this water cause problems in other areas of the air system too?
One area I can think of that could potentially suffer from the water is the unloader valve as it sits between the compressor and the air tank.
Also, since there is some water in the air system - would it be recommended to add some kind of oil to the air system periodically to prevent rust?
cheers
