Hi Riaan. The comp is supposed to start at 7am and yes you can come with a car, but it would be cool to have a G parked just to show off...

For those interested in driving throug here are the directions:
    Take the N1 north, Polokwane,
Just before the Carousel Plaza you will reach the Boekenhoutskloof off ramp,
    Turn left over the N1,
Just after the bridge there is a Rust de Winter sighn, turn left towards Rust de Winter,
Carry on through the local village, carry on until you reach a T junction,
    Turn right,
Carry on on this road, you will reach a Rust de Winter 8km sighn, proceed over a 4 way crossing which does not have a stop in your direction. Just after this crossing there are a few old buildings and a short bit after these buildings there is a very skelm turn in the road to the right, careful and slow down! In the turn on left hand side you will find the turn off for the competition.
Peace needs to be in everyone's life. It is not the world that needs peace; it is people. When people in the world are at peace within, the world will be at peace.

Eish Riaan, Why so much maintenance? You paid enough to not have to do maintenance everytime ther is something going on.
    Maybe you are just scared
Remember you are the reserve so you should come with the G, don't think the tazz is going to make it.

I'm going today already will be there hopefully arounf 17:00.

Re: AAWDC Inter Club Day Competition

So the day has come and gone.
Unfortuntely Francoirs G was not driveable and we had t replace him with another G which also did not have 4x4 but still completed the whole event and only had to be rcovered on the last obstacle.... our own.

At the end of the day we finished 7th out of 13 teams, not too shabby considering.

There were a few challenging obstacles, some stupid some grumpy but in the whole the event was a success and fun was had.

Well done to all, and thank you to Riaan, his father in law and Francoir for assisting with the G obsacle.

I hope everyone got back home safely.

Hehe trawling the net for comments on the day I see we are not the only ones with problems.
See below a cut n paste from Nissan club:
    :Hello all,
Due to an overwhelming, apparent, lack of interest by the club members, the 23 July training event for the AAWDC fun day, has been cancelled."

They planned to have a training day for the event so the team could all drive together at least once or twice beforehand. Good idea in my opinion.

Re: AAWDC Inter Club Day Competition

    Good Monday Morning all,

Thank you for those representing us.
As usual you obviously did an excellent job.
    Congratulations on the excellent results.
If we could accomplish this with the time and resources we had available, just imagine what would be possible if we committed more of ourselves.
More so if we could fit in a practice round or two?
Add to that the fun camaraderie that could have been had.
Next time I hope to be in a position to assist more with the preparation and participate as well.

    G roetnis

    Cecil

PS: Waiting for more details and prentjies, PLEASE

Hell! What a weekend! Only got there very late on Fri evening and up and going just after 5am on Sa. Everyone was in high spirits and we tackled the obstacles with all our might and experience from the word, go! Scruteneering was a bit of a pain in the backside with total overkill demanded from the ORA inspectors. For example Okkie's recovery kit which has never been used and bought from a reputable... 4x4 Mega World... could not be accepted because it was not rated (no specific tested weight rating on all the recovery webbings). How many novice 4x4 enthusiasts look or even know of ratings and so on? The product is bought from a 4x4 specialist and trusted because it has been bought from a specialist with his name on the product. So, in the future please ensure you buy and pay for tested and rated products!

Further on the day was very pleasant with most obstacles being as much fun as it was technical and challenging. Land Rover deserved the prize for the most fun obstacle with very mild twisters/ holes in the ground, a river crossing where the co driver had to get out and wade in front of the vehicle. My co sommer had a well needed wash while he was in the water... Hehehe!
The blindfolded/welding helmet on your head was probably the most challenging obstacle that comes to mind right now. The driver had to wear the helmet and the co-driver had to guide the obstacle without touching any part of the steering or the driver. One hell of a challenge for some!
Unfortunately I did not take any pictures but others did and I sincerely hope they share it with us. It was a great day and every one walked away from the event with more knowledge, respect for each other and a deeper sunk sense of camaraderie. Thank you to all who were there, the contestants and the guys who manned obstacle 5 on behalf of the G Club. Salut!
    P. S. Not one single vehicle in our group was damaged or broke down. I sincerely hope that this will be motivation to others and more G's to join us at the next competition.
Peace needs to be in everyone's life. It is not the world that needs peace; it is people. When people in the world are at peace within, the world will be at peace.

    Here are the final resuts.
I also found out now that I got 0 for our own obstacle, would love to know why?
Got through without banner touch but I did stall once. Interesting.
