    Lesotho Long weekend Outing

Over the long weekend there is a Trip to Lesotho which Michel has booked for 10 vehicles.

If you want to join in the fun phone and book with Ockie (082 552 6730) and to find out more read on:

The 10 rooms at Ramabanta have been booked for Thursday the 16th, Friday 17th and Saturday 18th.

The intended schedule for Thursday is to all meet at Roma in the afternoon, say 16.00hr, by entering at Peka is quicker otherwise entering at Maseru will take a bit longer at the border. (leaving JHB by about 7 am should be quite easy to get there by 16.00hrs….about 7 to 8hrs ..G-Wagen-hrs.)
To get to Roma at Ashley’s “Trading Post” is quite easy, it’s at the beginning of town on the right-hand side, clearly signposted. After that we all go in convoy to Ramabanta. +-3/4hr drive.

On Friday, after breakfast, we will go to see Semonkong and then go to see the Bijan Falls (highest single fall in Southern Africa) then do some sightseeing in that region, egress of the famous Baboon-Pass and later on our way back the ingress of the Baboon-Pass. (easy and no big 4x4).

On Saturday, early breakfast, we will go to Lipamaleng (weather permitting) and do some hill climbing and some bit heavier 4x4 (low range required) but we can turn round at any point if the going gets too tough. Then back to Ramabanta, this will take the whole day and will have some spectacular sightseeing! Promise!

Sunday back home either through Maseru, Peka or even Fouriesburg through Buta-Bute.

    Michel,

We'd love to join, unfortunately I am studying this year and have classes that weekend. Zelda and I are planning on taking the kids in to Lesotho this winter to play in t snow. Probably go in at Fouriesburg and head to Malealea.

    Enjoy!

OK I have verbally said already I cannot go but let me do it here so there is a response.
I am in Cape Town that weekend, unless work prevents that.

    Ai Zimmy

Things have gone south for me and this trip.

I have tried to get a lot of friends together but I was reminded that I already have a commitment on that weekend. However, I would love to take some of my vriends to Lesotho in the winter and I will most probably make my own arrangements later in June/July that would include the Sani Pass as coming from East London that is a nice place to enter.

If you could point to nice places to vist from there (no camping as it might just be a bit cold) for a weekend, it would be most appreciated. I'm going to try and get the 300 Proffessional from Colin in on this trip as well, so nothing that could break cars please.

    Regards,

    Arnold

    Re: Lesotho Long weekend Outing

Arnold, we have an other trip to Lesotho planned for mid July if you are interested, we could include the Sani pass for the people that arrive from the South! About the places to stay, well, I'm not that clued-up about, on the internet under "Lesotho, where to stay" there is a lot of places to choose from, it depends on the route that you would like to travel. Regarding breaking cars etc it really depends on how careful you drive, having said that stay away from Letele Pass, Baboon's Pass, Rampaia's Pass, Don't Cough Pass, Lipamaleng Pass etc.
The Four-wheel drive club of SA has planned on the same weekend as us to do the Sani, Monaneng to Katze and getting out at Fouriesburg, They are staying in lodges.
I , personally, prefer the unspoiled scenery of the Ramabanta region. In July I will have delivery of my new Professional and will do the Lesotho trip again.

    Safe trails,

    amzimmy

    Re: Lesotho Long weekend Outing

    Sounds good to me Michel

I personally would love to do those passes (Letele, Baboons etc) but if I ever want to ask Colin to come on a trip with me again I will have to take it slow! Baby steps - you see...

Let me know what you are planning for the next trip (July) and I will start getting people motivated on my side!

    Regards,

    Arnold
