    Namibia Trip

Hi. Just a quick update. Drove up to Noordoewer on 15th April. Road to Rosh Pinah washed away, so detoured on a 4x4 track up the Gamkab river then to Ai Ais. Then drove up to Aus, camped at the Desert Horse Inn campsite (very good) and got to see the wild horses to boot. Drove through to Kolmanskop ghost town (eerie!) the next day and then on to Luderitz. Yesterday drove from Aus to Sesriem and drove to Sossusvlei for sunset. Had a planned hot air balloon ride over the Vleis this morning at 05h00, but the heavens opened this morning at 03h00! Thought we and the rooftop tent were going to blow away!

Left Sessriem at six this morning and have driven in the rain all the way to Swakopmund (340 km's). It is still raining as I type this report. We upgraded our campsite to a chalet at Alte Brucke instead of pitching our RTT in the rain. On the Gwagon front all is going very well except for a water leak discovered by my wife. The said leak is dripping onto her left foot.

I have never seen this place so green before-looks like somebody has taken a plough to the landscape and sown grass fields.

Will try to send an update when next in range. On our way to Ugab, then Palmwag and Etosha.

Probably the windscreen rubber seal. Ask someone at a windscreen fitment centre to seal it. Had a similar leak on my W463.

    Hi Doug,
Sounds exciting and I recognise a lot of names. We did a trip there in 2007 (how time flies).
We also entered the Ugab (very swampy) and when one of the vehicles (Prado)in our party got stuck we decided to turn around as the next exit out of the valley was about 10km on and it could only get worse. Beware.
Very nice thjough and I would do the same trip again in a flash.

    Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

I'm off to Zim on Friday morning, can't wait. Haven't been there since '91 and '2004.

Good to hear all is well. Any Pics? I'd like to see the skeletised tree's of sousiesvlei in the water. Leal could be uder the battery box or perhaps where the wiper drive comes through the cab.

    Doug, beware of the rivers,

There was a photo of a Unimog that had to be recovered out of the Omaruru river in the newspaper yesterday.

Pity we cannot meet, I am leaving for ZA tomorrow.

    Regards
    Rolf
