Hello W163 crowd....
I had purchased a set of 8" x 16" ET62 original Mercedes-Benz ML wheels to use with a special designed adapter, as a inexpensive option, on the G-class.
In the meantime I did buy a 2003 ML320 which came with 8.5" x 17" ET42 wheels. I then installed my 16" wheels together with 265/75 16 AT tires onto the ML320.
The fit is quiet tight, but the wheels are clearing the larger calipers with no problems. Already, the ML looks much better with the larger tires, but I have not done anything else to the truck yet.
My plan is, to improve the ride height and obstacle clearance, install a better NAV headunit with bluetooth interfaces and use this vehicle for some easy "lite" offroad and city trips as I'm racking up miles to fast with my G-wagen.
I have not had the opportunity to drive the ML very much yet, loaned the truck to a friend so he could do some engine work on his G320 with a Brabus engine.

Hi Karl
I like this and hope there is much more coming from the ML and GL crowd.
The 16" rims I tried to fit was 6,5Jx16H2 ET47.
That rim and tyre on your ML looks awesome and give a lift of 30 mm. Next thing to do is spacers at the rear coil springs and adjustment of the torsion bars to lift the front. Then your ML is offroad ready!

Chris,
what kind of tires you are using on the CDI? Are they much louder than the regular ones?
I've driven for over 80k Miles with BFG AT & MT tires on my G-wagen without having a puncture or so. The ML tires are made by Falken and gotten a good review. Eventuell, I like to have a full size spare for the ML when going on longer trips. Do not like that tiny one hiding somewhere.....
Karl
Those tires are BFG MT KM2, same as on your G500. Excellent offroad but noisy onroad, I think next ones will be AT tires again. BFG are quite puncture resistant (1 sidewall damage in 40 000km) but some people say they debead more easily when blown down for sand driving( 1 debead in a mud hole).
As my tires are a larger size than standerd, I have to carry a full size spare on a custom made rear bumper and for longer trips second spare on roofrack. In the place of hiding tiny spare is now a 60 liter addisional feul tank.
