sigh...obviously cheaper to buy a old Gelandewagen just for the rims. Ive got
16" 5.5J rims...the narrow look but want to fit some decent BF's..265/75/16. with R25G + as my only option i suppose I can cut them in half and weld a ring into the middle to broaden them or re-engineer the hubs somehow to a more standard bolt patern. Frustrating stuff

Some guys have widened the steel rims successfully. This might be a good option.

I have had 6 rimes widened to 7J. All turned out very well. There is an old gent in Parow who does the cutting and widening using 8mm steel (Real old school artisan). They are still tubeless after the widening. Then took it to Wheel Service Centre for finishing off. Have fitted BFG AT 265/75's. The 1st 5 were done in 2007 and the last one in 2010. No problems so far at all.

Braam before you go that size tyre profile route try some on your 300D first. There are quite a few of us here who find the performance compromise is not acceptable. (with std 4.89 diffs of course)

Ian Bester fitted 265 75 16 (and it looks like std 5.5 J) on his 300GD and has an opinion. Ian are you there?

I have some aftermarket Porsche 7.5J x 15's that I may sell. They take 245 R15's very well but they throw mud up the side of the car.

Cheaper than MB (note GBP price is for 4 alloys) but shipping and duties might cost.
Much better price, but not as good looking imo... Would suit 463 better than 460. Have seen steelies widened by 5cm still clear the body! Didnt think it possible. Going for 2.5-3cm wider myself. The 235/85/16's the previous owner put on are bulgeing on the 5.5J's.
