    Andrew,

very nice to read about your trip and great pictures to show for.
We just came back from a +5000Km trip through the Baja California (Mexico) to visit our friend Harald Pietschmann down in La Paz.
I'm interested in the tire failure you had, what air pressure do you run?
We encountered some of the roughest road for many days in a row, but had to keep the speed up to complete the trip in time. Our G-wagens (two) were loaded pretty good and on the offroad section (bolders, gravel and sand) we deflated the BFG AT 295/75-16 to 18psi and had no tire failure at all.

You find some detail at http://www.pointedthree.com/disc/forums ... 20&start=1

    Until later,

    Karl

    Hey Karl,

Thanks for your words. I followed your trip keenly on P3. It is a beautiful place you live in and visit.

And I know that Moab is a Ruthless place !

I had old BFG MT's on std. 15" alloys at 200 kpa. I do not blame the tyres but think I nicked a sidewall up in the mountains. I normally prefer lower pressure tall skinny tyres because of sidewall bulge. It has worked well for me over the years. I've replaced with AT as I see you guys seem to favour too.

And as one of the "elders" in the G community, thanks for visiting our little group here. Your wisdom and help (particularly electrical) is much appreciated.

    Cheers

    Andrew,

I might look like one of the "Elders", because of my use-to-be blond hair.......by I'm just a fool like everybody else - ask Michel, he'll tell you

I think the tire issue is part of the component age - fortunately all my tires were always new tires when going on a adventure trip.

The last Death Valley trip got me a pretty good sidewall gash - Alan and I were racing to meet the others at Harald Marble Bath Celebration. The gash has not widened at all and the tire is still holding the air, but received ongoing abuse from the offroad environment.

Moab, UT, is for sure a happening place, for all kinds of outdoor fun. A bit to crowded for me and the red rock can get to you eventually......I prefer the cooler and greener Colorado's Rocky Mountains any time over the Slickrock Crowd.

The Death Valley Adventure will be an ogoing one. Close to home, full of historical places - that means older than 50 years - and hardly anybody using the back roads. No real wild beasts - unless your fellow G-man had to much of "the other white wine" - a magical place with a star spangled night sky to boost.

    Karl

Thank you for sharing Andrew and Danie. I still have hopes to one day do similar travels, perhaps Namibia this winter!

What was the cause of the aircon failure?

Couple. Will try to post some more as time allows!

For a "droster" I have been stuck at home for 18 months now and have started smoking my own fingernails to cope.

    Dawie - pipe burst.
