Buying my first G

Hey there,

Has anyone come across this 280 GE before, it was restored in pretoria, yellow, had a incomplete aircon installation, so the compressor is installed but hasn't been pulled through (is it possible to finish this ?) I just had a full AA done on it before I make the purchase and wanted to know who is best to speak to about repairs in Cape Town ? There are a few problems but I don't think anything too serious( gear box leak, engine oil leak,universal joint play, diff oil leak)

Looks like he one that was for sale in KZN ( north Coast ) I think it has been commented on before - Frik went to see it - had no front propshaft fitted I believe.

Rather let someone check this G out before you buy....BTW the AA dont know Gs

Do you guys know anyone I could asked to have a look in that area ?

I spoke to the G mechanic here and seems pretty happy with the AA result and that there are no 'serious' issues, but would have to take a look at the gearbox leak and engine leak as those might be serious.

The engine is a 280 e from a 3 series(I believe) with 71 000 on it.

How does that removed prop effect the performance ? and what are the other reasons it would have been removed other than fuel efficiency ?

For a start your G will be 4x2 if the prop is removed...prop shafts are usually removed due to serious vibration issues.

Good news on that is that they refitted the prop shaft and only took it out for the drive from pta - kzn. (fuel economy). Auto box is an original 280 se gear box. Getting closer !!!!!

2.Did they rebuild a G that was scrap (if there is such a thing)...
3.Why sell in Durban then JhB then...?
4.Since it is a rebuild--The person is wanting to get his rebuild money back so probably extra R30k +? Is this worth it?
5.What problems do you anticipate & know about

Simon, just to clarify. Is the G still in KZN, or is it located in CPT?
