    Re: Manuals

Just to relate my saga as regards the Workshop Manual. In 2004 ordered an English version for the official 460 manual from DB in Germany. It literally took months to deliver as the English vesion was out of print at the time. Delivered, it cost me over R3,000. Jowever, I was not impressed with the quality. Some pages were in fact photocopies, the cover was too small to fit the contents and tonight I discovered that in the Steering section, the Transfer case detail is reflected. I cannot find any reference for the steering box.

At the time, I complained bitterly about the service received and the quality delivered and in the end, I was referred to Daimler Chrysler South Africa! To this day I have never been so disappointed in the Germans/Austrians.

So, if the manual is good, particularly in digital form, then $125 is not a bad price!

    Re: Manuals

Get the one from Harald , its good quality and has most sections - some are missing from mine such as fuel system, exhaust, ventilation ,glass , and a few others - it has all the important bits incl steering, transfer box, engine , gearbox, axles

    Re: Manuals

    Hello my friends in SA,

Haralds manuals are very nice, I bought one when I owned my '91 300GE - it was very helpful. I do not know how extensive his manual for the W460 300D is.

Danie asked me to look into the WIS - which cover a ton of Mercedes-Benz vehicles and see what W460 300D's are listed. To navigate the WIS is entirely a different story........

Here are the listings for the G-wagen 300D

    W460.307, 312, 322, 323, 325, 328, 332, 333, 343

    W461.312, 313, 325, 347, 348, 349

Please let me know if I can help any further.

BTW Haralds email: Harald Pietschmann <harald.pietschmann[at]gmail.com>

    Re: Manuals

I have bought a manual by Peter Russek that covers 230ge, 280ge, 240gd 300gd and others, that I managed to find in the uk. Two years later and it has not arrived. Finally got it from Autobooks.co.za or Seven Sea traders and they were VERY helpful.
I found the manual to have some important information but also with some contradictions in specs here and there. The publishers of this book are no longer printing this, but I think Autobooks ordered a few extras when I asked. Not a briliant manual, but definitely has useful info for somebody with no info. Cost was about +_R350

    Re: Manuals

Well it seems I was not the only one very disappointed.
When I ordered my manual somewhere n the late nineties they cost me about R2000, and as per Dawie had lots of photocopies.
I also think electronic makes a lot of sense since you can print clean pages everytime you need them.
