    New tyres

I want to get new tyres of the size 245/75 R16.

I want to hear opinions and also where to buy.

My choices currently are as follow:

    Michelin LTX M/S
    Michelin LTX AT2
    Good Year Duratech
    Yokohama Geolandar

So far I can get the LTX M/s for 2109.00 excl. which is not as bad as they were a while ago but still steep. I would need 8 to cover my trailer and G including spares. ( I have just noticed that the tyre on my trailer has a bubble on its tread and will probably burst on the next trip if I don't change it.) Must admit the tyres are very old although the tread is still 95%.

Tx, I also prefer the two LTX's and the M/S in first place as I have seen them perform.

Also had M+S on my 290, they are excellent. I just prefer the A/T pattern.

Exactly my thoughts but as I said the hell with the looks function counts.

In my opinion the Good Year Duratec will give the best offroad performance but still good tar manners.

Good Year AT/SA also worth look at and not expensive.

    Re: New tyres

Chris, you will be surprised. When I saw the LTX in action they were competing against BFG, COOPER and DUNLOP cheapies. Out of all they tyres the LTX came out tops. The rest all managed the same route biut looked like they had been fed to the rats afterwards. The LTX's looked new and still did a few years after when I saw the G again.
And that after it had been to Lesotho a few times as well.

15 years plus I wowed never to buy Good Year again because I had really bad service from them and it is still in my mind. Was (note was) contemplating giving them a chance again, but the more I think about it the more the LTX M/S becomes my only choice.

Kumho KL71 is my vote. My experience is that they are a great MT without the normal MT problems (bad grip on wet tar, noise etc.) Also they were much cheaper than the tires you quoted. Pay for 6 get 8.

Only problem is that they are directional tires so it will be good to keep a non-directional spare(s). This would be a good way to use up your old AT tires. I assume they are the same size?

I have driven 13,000km with them now and they are not rat bitten or looking worse for wear.

    Re: New tyres

As you know I went for a 5 tyre rotation with LTX AT. I dont like the look but they are certainly doing the quiet, grippy, long life goods for me after 20 000km. I am on 11mm tread left (from 13).

Again, this is such a subjective topic that you need to go with your gut. Each oke has his own good and bad and I am hardly the scientist here.
