Came across this post on the old SAGW forum - ( for those that don't know this was the forum used by G enthusiasts before this forum ) Posed 3 Sept 2003

I had an interesting conversation on Monday with the previous MD of Ermetek
with regards to the G-Wagon.

Ermetek was the company that supplied all the converted Unimogs to the
SANDF, as well as developing the G6. As part of their evaluations, they
did fatigue tests on various 4x4 in the late 80s, partly to understand the
design parameters of the various manufacturers.

One of the evaluations involved the G-wagon and according to their tests
the fatigue factor on the chassis of the G-wagon as tested, was a ration of
12 times higher than comparable vehicles. This is also confirmed by the
thickness of the steel beams in the G-wagon being nearly twice that of
comparable vehicles, which unfortunately translates into a higher mass and
fuel consumption, but then helps in reducing the centre of gravity of the
G!

So, even if the rest of your G goes to pot, it is unlikely that you will
exceed the life expectancy of the chassis!
