    Modern Electronic nonsense

I have noticed a GL500 sitting in the Orbit workshop for a while so I asked the mechanic whats going on here and he said water got into the car and the electronics system - so car does not go. This car is covered in dirt so I guess the driver had been doing some offroad work and probably got to deep into a river. The entire inside has been stripped and looking inside there are electronic boxes everywhere. I also noticed that the left wheels were protruding beyond the bodywork as asked the mechanic whats going on and he explained that with the 4x4 system the wheels are locked up and they had to fit special freewheel spaces so they can push the car around! This is definitely not a bush friendly vehicle. I suspect the car will be there for some time!

Like someone once said somewhere on this forum, if you want to cross a river, get a ........... boat! He was even told to apologise (to me) which was not necessary. Even the "tough, no nonsense" TLC76's used by Voetspore from Morocco, needed all diffs replaced within 3 months from their return home. Inadequate breathers on transmission components led to damage. MB stil does not fit Evinrude to their cars, so would it not be better to steer clear of river beds and estuaries? What is the real need to accept such risk?
There is wisdom in waiting and mistakes get prevented that way. Come back after three full moons....... Mmmmm.
