    Dakar 2012

I don't no who of you followed the Dakar this year, but was surprised how well the mini's. First and second and fourth place.

Did some research and and was interesting to see Magna Steyr, same company who designed and still built the G today, was responsible was most of the work.

"Magna Steyr under the project lead of Hermann Pecnik has been responsible for concept design, the technical drawings and calculations, as well as the production data and compliance with stringent FIA regulations governing cross-country motor sport

The frame and chassis components were designed by Büren-based Heggemann Autosport GmbH and Faster worked on the complete carbon-kevlar body and provided Magna-Steyr with assistance on the construction of the MINI"

Why no G-wagens in Dakar again? Or are there?

AFAIK the only year the G participated was 1982 and they won almost everything and thus decided not to take part again...nothing left to prove.

The Mini is still (BMW) only Tata sorry Land Rover was sold of to Tata.
Quite a feather in teir cap new vehicle and straight away a win.

I feel they should have two sections:
    1) Modified vehicles and
    2) Stock vehicles

Currently I feel its like driving RC cars. The chassis is there and they put any plastic body to cover it all.

    Yes

It's seem the people/company who gives the moola can decide what type/brand of car it will be. The only mini part on that car is probably the badge.

I am glad a smaller car won, because bigger is not always better, like the hummers.

[at]Alan, don't think there is many stock standard cars that will make the dakar in one piece however.

    Cheers

They have these 2 sections, the T2 cars are stock vehicle and compete against each other

This Mini was shown on Dakar program. Only 3 parts from the original Mini
    - headlamps
    - windscreen
    - door handles
They have not mention the badge

To my knowledge, there were 5 Unimogs registered for the Dakar 2012 and one MERCEDES BENZ 4X4 Todo terreno (withdraw).
