Who is going to pay R180K for a 1986 non original G that is not a perhaps a custom Dakar racing version or something really special? Crazy.

Can we PLEASE get a puking emoticon, admin???
Peace needs to be in everyone's life. It is not the world that needs peace; it is people. When people in the world are at peace within, the world will be at peace.

    Re: another lexus...

I once had a 300GD that had a 2.2 toyota turbo motor and 5 speed box in it. It was superb - much nicer than any standard 460 (including the 617A) that I have ever had.

I changed it back when the motor packed up. IMO if the G has not been cut up / butchered - this is one vehicle that is so easy to change to any engine / gearbox combo that takes your fancy.

And when you want to sell it again take out the combo and put the donkey back in it (and only then will I buy it!)

PS would it not be marvellous if there was say a simple MB 250 turbodiesel and 5 spd combo that could be used.

That has been done with a C250 turbodiesel although I dont know who did it or location of that vehicle (or if it fits criteria of "simple"?)...

Dietmar Frey had one. But it is not as simple as bolting on a Toyota.

I thought about this the other day.... If there was a G spec 5sp auto 'box available for 250td motor with mechanical pump (a la Musso) it would be the marvelous indeed....

-If I remember correctly that 250 conv. of Dietmar was not that simple nor trouble free..

As far as I know all MB 5sp auto's are electronically controlled. You would need a device to control the shifts etc.

Wow it is amazing what you can find on google!

    http://www.powertraincontrolsolution...anscontrol.php

Who wants a G500? Get a smashed ML500 with gearbox. Get an aftermarket ECU and this thingy for the gearbox (The ML has the 722.6 gearbox which this can control, on paper at least) and hey presto you have a G500! No more f%$ing Lexus conversions!

But seriously the G500 engine and gearbox look very similar on the EPC to the 163 ML. I guess it might be a oil pan and gearing issue but all other things are there to buy i.e. radiator, engine mounts etc etc. All you need is a 463
