    1982 3 door SWB

1982 240 GD SWB fitted with a ford V6 motor.
    Vin: 46033027020163

It is currently still licensed until April 2012 and it is used daily.
The Vehicle was bought with the assistance of Johan Marx in October of this year, but has not yet been for the roadworthy test to re-register it to my name.

I am offering this vehicle for sale mainly because of the fact that a 3 door G is just not proving to be practical for me at the moment.

It has allot of body rust and needs TLC inside and out, I just do not have the time to tackle a project like this at the moment, and I need a more economical vehicle for the daily school run.

The following has been Fixed / Replaced:
    • Exhaust Fixed (new gaskets)
    • Replace Windshield (with used windshield that was in a beter condition)
    • Replace rear door window (new window fitted)
    • Fitted 2 x New Rear vier mirrors
    • Fitted Rim Centre caps
    • Blocked off hole in dash with cover
    • Replaced Rear vent covers (New covers fitted)
    • Fiberglass drivers floor
    • Replaced Diff oil front and rear
    • Fitted petrol pedal (Replacement from W123)
    • Replaced indicator switch (used switch from T Nicholas)
    • Fixed Rev counter (Adjusted to enable 6Cyl readout)
    • Fit new fuel tank sender unit (after market unit fitted)
    • Replace all plug wires (new)
    • Replace Points and Condenser
    • Replaced rear shocks (New Gabriel)
    • New spark plugs
    • Fabricated and fitted Rear door stop
    • Tinted rear windows and sunroof
    • Repaired drivers window winder mechanism
    • Fixed the Rear prop shaft (it was out of phase)
    • Serviced Diff-Locks (rear diff lock still sticks and has to be refurbished)
    • Replaced rear brake cylinders
    • New Rear Brake shoes and Drums skimmed
    • Front brake pads where renewed by previous Owner
    • Repaired Clutch Slave Cylinder
    • Re-sprayed the Grill, front Bumper, and the Rims.
    • I stripped out the interior panels, in order to seal the sunroof, Head lining is out and most of the interior/side panels.

The Two front seats have been re-covered by the previous owner, and the rear bench is not standard.

    Price: R 50 000 negotiable.

Sad to see you are throwing in the towel Jurgen. You have put a lot of effort in there thus far... Been there with my previous one as it just needed too much work for me and not enough free time..
Would you know if yours has the original gearbox in with an adaptor plate, or ford gearbox? Diff ratios?

Where did you get new Gabriel shocks from? I though you can't get any more?

    Re: 1982 3 door SWB

Thanks Leonard, yes unfortunately my circumstances at home have changed, with a extra set of pink feet roaming the hallway…so free time is a bit of a luxury at the moment.

The car has a 5 speed Mercedes box fitted, the bell housing is welded to the ford housing.
(I wil have to crawl underneath to get the gearbox number.)

    The diff ratio's are 5.33:1

The shocks I found at Partman in Menlyn.
The only parts shop that actually made an effort to help me, all others I visited with the sample just shrugged and said "that shock is not on our system"

The sales person at partman helped me by searching their shelves for about half an hour. The number on the box is:

    Gabriel Safari G56179

    The transfer case is a :460 281 10 16

The car also has most of the components of the aftermarket air con that was fitted (probably before the engine transplant) it needs a compressor, but it has the rest of the parts.

If I can find a decent 5 door I will definitely not hesitate to purchase one of these remarkable vehicles. So I will be watching the classifieds section

Nearly forgot to attach the assesment done on the car by Johan Marx.
This report was required by the insurance company.

Does not look like a typical engineering report I come across in the real world

Not much of a report. Hope it did not cost you too much though.

    Re: 1982 3 door SWB

No mention of rust , shocks and brakes that obviously had to be done . Roadworthy certificate would be much more meaningfull than the "Engineers report" . What kind of engineer do they want - registered with what institution? I wonder

Jurgen, sorry to hear you must sell.

Think its allways worthwile paying a little bit more for one in a good condition, because it seems it can be a bottomless pit if not.

Show some photos of the engine please.

    Greetings anton
