    I think they are plainly called "connect-it" connectors.

    These "connect-it" joiners are great, they line up the frame perfectly, and once in position you can fasten them with a self-tapper or rivet (I prefer self-tapper).
    with the carpeting as a runner is for me the best solution, it is positive, inexpensive, easy to apply, does not rattle, is not affected by dust and it lasts! The draws can be pulled out to the full length, providing a "stopper". I thought that tig-welding was something for the "professionals" however I found out that it is quite easy and you can purchase a welding kit quite inexpensive.
    About the size of draws, I like to have smaller draws instead of two big one, by using a big draw one tends to fill this with a lot of items and when you look for a specific item you end-up emptying the whole draw
