Re: 463 wheel bearing hub socket?

    Haven't received a date yet.
I'm not in a rush, still happy to drive with current bearings but I just wanted them as spare if I need them. Don't want to start searching after the current ones failed.

    Munga

Thanks, very nice write up, good to have a wheel-bearing specialist in the Cape now.....

You should start selling your services.

    Cheers

Re: 463 wheel bearing hub socket?

Darcy, nice write up. The photos are also a very nice touch.
Just one querie and maybe we can get some opinions here, if the king pin bearings are replaced you should actually recalculate the shims. I don't think it would make a huge difference and those do not work too hard either.

Just a note: According to manuals they recommend you back off the inner nut by 1/8th of a turn after loosening the nut and hand tightening to take up any play.
I ended up doing the whole process several times until I had minimal feelable play. I always came out with no play.

Thanks again for the write up.
