    300GD - Facelift

I am in the process of facelifting my 1980 300GD. I will include pics of other early model face lifts.
I recognize the “ purist” G-owners wound not approve of this but I don’t take my G-wagon to serious, it is just my hobby, not my identity.
So far I have made plaster-of-paris moulds of the original rubber light covers and produced glass-fibre copies.
I designed a new look grille and cut a mould on a CNC machine. I plan to use the original steel grille as a mould to produce the outer part of my new grill from glass-fibre and then to join it to my newly designed glass-fibre centre section.
I also need wheel arches. I heard that locally produced glass-fibre copies are available. Does anyone know where I can purchase a set. Otherwise I can produce a set of moulds from a borrowed set of wheel arches.
    Thanks

I like the new grill design you are working on .Will the insert you are making then be fitted inside your old steel grill thats been cut out to accomodate the new insert?
Would realy consider buying one from you if you ever decide to make more than one from your mould. It will look ubercool on your G.
I would also be interrested in moulded wheelarches if you want to make more than one set with your moulds

    Happy tinkering on the G
    Cheers
    Johann

    Hi Johann
Thanks, the design was inspired by the new MB van's grill. No, I will not cut my old steel grill, I will use the inside of the old steel grill as a mould to make a grass-fiber copy of the main body (the sides) and then marry the new front grill to the coped body.

I will gladly help anybody with wheel arches but I still need a set of borrowed wheel arches to make a set of moulds.

Hi WIllem I would also be interested in some wheel arches so put me on your distribution list. Also see the article elsewhere on the forum regarding 'Rubberite' arches soiurces from them in Pretoria.
