Sabie 2011 - What a Great Mog Weekend!!

What an absolute great weekend we had at Sabie - 18 Mogs running and about 60 odd people attending.


The Unimog Freunde, SA Club is now official after a meeting held on Saturday evening. A committee was elected being Ferdi de Beer as Chair, Marna Roux as Secretary, Ray Thompson, Martin Coetzee and Stefan Coetzee (no family).

But it was the members and their families who made the weekend. All dressed in Club colours and caps, all going for the extended drive in the mountains and those without a Mog there hitched rides.


Then the 100 km road trip to Hazyview, Graskop via Kowyns Pass and back to Sabie where Ferdi lost an arial and convinced his wife he needs a turbo and White Mike and Green Mike raced up the mountain pass at the insane speed of 60km . The final closure with hugs and shakes at the breakfast on the stoep in Dullstroom Monday morning.

We will not forget guys like Peter from Kokstad (2 days drive in a flat car) Nic from Tzaneen in his new U5000 Doka, Werner from Northem and Johan trailoring his 411 with his VW bus and Leon from MBSA who kept the U5000 going, just to name some.

Saturday evening also saw some winners of prizes in the form of trophies : Mike H won Learner of the Day for opening his bonnet every time we stopped and learned more about his Mog by the stop , Loot got the Joker for consistently mucking around with everybody right through the weekend and Carel Roux was awarded "The Man of the Day" .

Each Mogger there also got a limited edition calendar on the history of Mogs. THis was donated by MBSA as Unimog is 60 years in the MB stable this year. Thank you Ferdi and Merecedez Benz for this (one can vacuum it and put it away), and for assisting in the arrangements that the "groot gees" in Mogs, Oom Johnny (long retired) could share the day and evening with us.

We will post in "Chapters" as there are a number of stories to share - and just too many photographs. The press guys, between the four of them must have taken ish thousands of pics. We will post the dates when the Mags will be on shelve for you to go buy all of them.

Next year we will do this one again. It has been agreed that this one stays!



Some of the photos will be posted in batches (and maybe we will be allowed additional space by the Forum Master.... Maybe Tessa can post the famouse foursome taken at Maritzbos Hut deep in the mountain where we shared space with a number of back packing hikers who could not believe their eyes when the Mogs popped out of the bush one by one right infront of their breakfast table...
